DiCaprio picks up long-awaited Oscar for The Revenant
The 88th Oscar Awards named Leonardo DiCaprio "The Best Actor" and awarded his first Oscar for The Revenant.
Leonardo DiCaprio has had six nominations in the past for his long-awaited Oscar.
The biographic western thriller The Revenant's director Alejandro G. Iñárritu won The Best Director Award during the Oscar ceremony held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Mark L. Smith has adapted the movie from Michael Punke's novel published in 2002.
Spotlight picked up The Best Picture Award as well as The Best Original Screenplay, while Brie Larson was named Best Actress for Room, and Alicia Vikander won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Danish Girl.
Best Supporting Actor Award went to Mark Rylance for his performance in Bridge of Spies.
Directed by Turkish-French film director Deniz Gamze Ergüven, France's Oscar Nominee Mustang could not get the Best Foreign Film Oscar, while the award went to Hungary-made Son of Saul.
Amy won the 2016 Oscar Winner for Best Documentary Feature, depicting the life and death of British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse who died in 2011.
The Best adapted screenplay Award went to The Big Short, while The Revenant won the Best cinematography, Mad Max Fury Road won the Best Editing and Inside Out won the Best Animation Oscars.
